GENERAL INFORMATION

The top dead point is the highest point which is reached by each of pistons during rotation of a bent shaft. As each of pistons reaches VMT both at the time of a compression step, and at the time of a release step, for synchronization of the engine, position of the piston (usually the piston No. 1) in the top point of a step of compression is accepted to VMT.

The piston No. 1 and the cylinder are located in a forward part of the engine where there is a camshaft drive chain.

Take into account that the bent shaft rotates clockwise if to look from the forward party of the car.

Definition of the top dead point of the piston No. 1

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect a wire of the minus plug of the accumulator.
2. To improve access to a pulley of a bent shaft, unscrew a guard and remove it.
3. Unscrew fixing bolts and uncover a gear belt to get access to an asterisk of the fuel pump. Be careful and do not lose a sealing strip of a cover.
4. Using the clockwork handle, rotate a bent shaft until the tag on a rim of a pulley does not coincide with the index a fixing bolt. Consider that on a pulley there are several adjusting tags, but a tag for installation of the piston in VMT the biggest; other tags are used for synchronization of operation of the fuel pump.
5. If the tag and the index are compared correctly, then pistons No. 1 and No. 4 are in VMT.
6. To define what of pistons is in VMT at the time of a compression step, check an arrangement of a tag of the synchronization located on an asterisk of the fuel pump. When the piston No. 1 is in VMT at the time of a compression step, the tag has to be visible in the left part of an asterisk. If the tag is not visible, the piston No. 4 means is in VMT at the time of a compression step. Turn a bent shaft on one whole revolution (360 °) and the piston No. 1 will appear in VMT.
7. When the piston No. 1 is in VMT at the time of a compression step, the engine can be blocked in such situation having inserted M8 bolt into a synchronizing opening of an asterisk of the fuel pump and having screwed in it in a carving opening of a back guard.
