On petrol V6 engines and the diesels C223 removable bearings of the camshaft are provided. On engines of other modifications which are considered in this manual support of the camshaft are cast with a head of cylinders at the same time.

Removal and installation

Removal and installation of bearings of the camshaft of the V6 engine by means of a special stripper


Combination of lubricant openings of bearings of the camshaft by means of a piece of the wire bent at an angle 90 °


Bearings of the camshaft are replaced at partial or full dismantling of the engine.

1. For implementation of the procedure the engine is recommended to be removed from the car.
2. It is necessary to remove the camshaft, pushers, a flywheel and a broad cap (is in a forward part of the engine). The cap is pressed off from within the block of cylinders.
3. To replace camshaft bearings without full dismantling, it is necessary to remove the camshaft and a bent shaft, pistons assembled with rods remain on the place.
4. Before removing a bent shaft, put on pieces of rubber hoses bolts of conrod covers not to injure a neck of a bent shaft.
5. That rods did not interfere with replacement of bearings of the camshaft rods it is necessary to attach to a side part of the block of cylinders. For this purpose attach them rubber rings to the bolts of the oil pallet screwed in the block of cylinders.
6. At strong wear of bearings, or at capital repairs of the engine bearings change as follows.
7. Vypressuyte a cap from the block of cylinders.
8. Establish a stripper, having rested teeth against the replaced bearing.
9. Gradually wrapping a stripper nut, take the bearing.
10. Vypressuyte other bearings, forward and back bearings are removed in the last turn.
11. For removal of forward and back bearings turn a stripper and a vypressuyta each of bearings in the block of cylinders.
12. Without changing the provision of a stripper press new bearings.
13. Again turn a stripper, establish in the place and press other bearings.
14. Press a new cap.
15. Make sure that lubricant openings (1) coincided with lubricant channels.

Check of a state

1. Wash out the camshaft in solvent and examine a condition of cams and basic necks.
2. At a doubtful condition of cams measure them in longitudinal (And) and cross (In) the directions.
3. At considerable wear of cams or basic necks the camshaft should be proshlifovat or replaced.


If basic necks are worn-out, then bearings are also worn-out and are subject to replacement.

4. If cams and basic necks have no wear tracks, then check a camshaft beating by means of prisms and the arrow indicator. If the beating in the center exceeds 0,025 mm, then replace the camshaft.
5. Measure diameters of cams in two mutually perpendicular directions. Subtract diameter in the perpendicular direction from diameter of the clown (define raising of a cam). If this difference for cams of final and inlet valves differs, then the camshaft should be proshlifovat or replaced.
