3.1.5. Adjustment of gaps of valves

GENERAL INFORMATION

Prevention

Valves are adjusted on the cold engine. It is forbidden to reduce gaps of valves against norm, only small increase in gaps is allowed.


ADJUSTMENT OF GAPS ON 4-CYLINDER ENGINES

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Uncover a head of cylinders.
2. Make sure that the head of cylinders and bolts of a cam-shaft are tightened with the set moments.
3. Expose the piston of the 1st cylinder in compression step VMT (is determined by increase of a compression when closing with an opening finger for a candle), having combined a tag on a crankshaft pulley with the index.
4. Adjust a gap in the sequence specified in the enclosed tables.
5. For adjustment of a gap release a lock-nut and rotate an adjusting bolt. After exposure of the necessary gap (the probe has to move between a cam of a cam-shaft and a core of the valve under small effort) tighten a lock-nut.
6. Expose the piston of the 4th cylinder in compression step VMT for what turn the crankshaft on 360 °.
7. Upon termination of adjustment establish a cover, having replaced laying and having greased it with sealant.

For petrol engines

ADJUSTMENT OF GAPS ON 6-CYLINDER ENGINES

Adjustment of gaps on the 6-cylinder engine (V6)


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Uncover a head of cylinders (see subsection 3.1.3).
2. Expose the piston of the 1st cylinder in compression step VMT (risk on a pulley of the crankshaft it has to be combined with a tag "0", yokes of the 1st cylinder cannot freely move).
3. Adjust gaps in the following valves:
      – final: 1, 2 and 3 cylinders.
      – inlet: 1, 5 and 6 cylinders.
4. Release an adjusting nut until the side play is felt.
5. Wrap an adjusting nut until the side play does not disappear. Tighten a nut on one and a half turns for centering of a pusher.
6. Turn the crankshaft on 1 turn and again combine to risk on a crankshaft pulley with a tag "0" (the piston of the 4th cylinder at the same time is exposed in compression step VMT).
7. Adjust gaps in the following valves:
      – final: 4, 5 and 6 cylinders.
      – inlet: 2, 3 and 4 cylinders.
8. Release an adjusting nut until the side play is felt.
9. Wrap an adjusting nut to those, a time so far the side play will not disappear. Tighten a nut on one and a half turns for centering of a pusher.
10. Upon termination of adjustment establish a cover, having changed laying and having greased it with sealant.
