System of ventilation of a case of 4-cylinder petrol engines with the regulating throttle

Distinctive feature of PCV system is that on 4-cylinder petrol engines the spool-type device is absent. Instead of it the regulating throttle which is built in the soaking-up collector is applied. Capacity of a throttle depends on extent of opening of a butterfly valve. At big opening of a butterfly valve a part of gases is sucked in in the air filter through a back part of a cover of the gas-distributing mechanism.

On V6 engines in PCV system the spool-type device is used. The stream is defined by extent of depression in the soaking-up collector by a zolotnik. At high depression the stream of intra crankcase gases in the soaking-up collector is weakened. In the power setting other than optimum the stream of gases is redirected through a ventilating tube of a case to the air filter then it is burned up in engine cylinders.

During the unstable operation of the engine idling immediately check a condition of a zolotnik.

For this purpose on the working engine get a zolotnik from a cover and apply to it a finger. If depression is not felt, then hoses are damaged or littered, or the zolotnik or the soaking-up collector are polluted. Stop the engine, remove a zolotnik and shake the valve. If there is no characteristic knock, then replace a zolotnik.

Serviceability of PCV system should be checked at each change of oil in the engine. Through each 48000 km of a run it is necessary to perform all works on service of this system.


Operation of the engine without zolotnik or system of ventilation is inadmissible, otherwise an engine exit out of operation is possible.


Check integrity of the membrane valve, its sticking to a landing surface. Check wear of an oil separator, at detection of signs of a doubtful state replace.
